Post several major gaming conventions and also separeate developer showcases, it has been a very slow but not completely unremarkable week for sci-fi.

Here's a catch up.

Early Avatar?

In what might be a major development on the gaming landscape, out of Disney's D23 Expo came an update trailer for mobile / android MMO Avatar: Reckoning.

Both this and Ubisoft's single player action roleplaying game Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora had been delayed to 2023. This trailer pegs Reckoning as "coming soon".

Thunderous Love

This morning while breakfasting we watched newly released on Disney+ Thor: Love and Thunder. It is much better than both its trailers and reviews suggest.

Then we read news of the death of Queen Elizabeth II. We would have recommended watching this film anyway, but it feels especially poetic on this day.

With The Expanse winning the former for its season five finale Nemesis Games - it's second win out of five nominations - and Dune the latter.

Goofy Grace

In an interview with Interview (yes, that's right), Sigourney Weaver has dropped a cryptic and unexpected tease about her character in the upcoming Avatar: The Way of Water film.

I think if Jim Cameron didn’t know me really well, he wouldn’t have cast me as something as goofy as this.

Seeking Stars

A new "pulpy space opera genre film" Island in the Stars which will be shot in Australia is seeking its own stars - high profile ones to join their cast.

Which already includes Australians Vernon Wells (Mad Max II : The Road Warrior, Weird Science), Tony Bonner (The Man From Snowy River), Emily Coupe (The Crossroads) and Krista Vendy (Neighbours).

Netflix September

Australian Netflix subscribers have a little bit of a extra sci-sunshine coming their way in September.

With Dune on the 2nd, The Matrix Resurrections on the 16th and curiously or perhaps ominously, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners still without an official release date.
