Sci-Fi Spirit

At this year's Film Independent Spirit Awards, Everything Everywhere All at Once was nominated for seven (out of twelve total for film) categories and won them all, setting a record for the awards.

Only Jamie-Lee Curtis lost out to co-star Ke Huy Quan because this year the awards went gender neutral - everyone up against each other all together.

While Everything Everywhere All at Once was tied second for number of nominations (10) at this year's British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs), it won only Best Editing (Paul Rogers).

Science fiction's only other win came courtesy of Avatar: The Way of Water for Best Special Visual Effects (Richard Baneham, Daniel Barrett, Joe Letteri and Eric Saindon).

The less prestigious sister to The Academy Awards are The Golden Raspberries, shining an embarassing spotlight on film industry misses.

While sci-fi led in Oscars nominations, its worst only came in fourth at the Razzies - Morbius (5) followed by Jurassic Park Dominion (3) and Firestarter (2).

Glum Golden Globes

The evening started well for science fiction with Ke Huy Quan (Everything Everywhere All at Once) and Angela Bassett (Black Panther: Wakanda Forever) winning best supporting actor and actress in film.

Angela's win meant a loss for Jamie-Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once) but there can only be one winner in each category.
