Nielsen Data 2022

Viewership monitoring company Nielsen have published their data for 2022 and Netflix sci-fi series Stranger Things (all 34 episodes) took two crowns - most streamed original and most streamed overall program with 52 billion minutes.

Other strong sci-fi performers were Amazon series The Boys and Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, earning 11th and 13th positions for original programs.

Oscar Noms

Nominees for The 94th Academy Awards have been announced and largely thanks to Dune, sci-fi is well respresented.

Dune came overall second for number of nominations with ten behind The Power of the Dog with twelve.

What is Don't Look Up?

Back in early December we commented on the interesting critic response to Don't Look Up and wondered if it might a politicised reaction to a suspicious, but not widely commented on behind the scenes element, pay.

Since then it has made to Netflix, we've been able to watch it, it has broken Netflix records and become their all time second most watched Original, just behind Red Notice, and today it received four BAFTA nominations.

BAFTA Darling Dune

A welcome sight in the newstream this morning is a small avalanche of articles whose titles declare Dune leading the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) award nominations.

Dune received an impressive eleven nominations out of a total of twenty-five categories.

Don't Look Up Reviews

The BBC reports that reviews for Netflix's Don't Look Up are mixed.

On Rotten Tomatoes it has a 54% and 91% score from critics and audiences respectively.

DART Launch Imminent

It looks like the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) will make its first launch window. NASA have advised via twitter that it will launch at 5:21 pm AEDT with live coverage commencing at 4:30 pm AEDT.

NASA have also released a short video of Adam McKay, director of Don't Look Up, comparing his movie to the mission.

Don't Look Up Trailer

Netflix have released a trailer for their upcoming film, Don't Look Up.

The trailer shows the two main characters reporting an imminent cataclysmic asteroid strike to the US President and being brushed off. Then where they go from there.
