A trailer has been released for The Pod Generation, a satirical look at parenthood in the near future.
The movie follows a young New York couple who are setting out to start a family. But in this version of the future, it's possible to shift gestation to a detachable artificial womb, allowing both partners to share the pregnancy.
This makes perfect sense to mother-to-be Rachel, played by Emilia Clarke, although partner Alvy (Chiwetel Ejiofor) is suspicious of technology and had hoped for a natural pregnancy.
But instead of a cynical portrayal of the impact of technology on our lives, the movie delivers a feel-good and moving portrayal of a couple coming to terms with their impending parenthood and the changes it will bring to their relationship. The egg-shaped womb tech effectively becomes just a storytelling device.
The Pod Generation hits cinemas from August 11.
