The creators of the Game of Thrones TV series have revealed their next project. Based on sci-fi novels by Cixin Liu, 3 Body Problem is an alt-history storyline based around a secret Chinese military project in the 1960’s that makes contact with an alien civilisation.

Set over decades up until the present day, the plot follows secret preparations to deal with the anticipated arrival on Earth by the aliens, whose own civilisation is on the brink of collapse. A series of human factions emerges that seek to either help the aliens or resist them.

Unsurprisingly you can expect to spot GoT alumni throughout the series, including John Bradley who played Samwell Tarly throughout all eight seasons and producer Bernadette Caulfield. There’s also fresh blood in the form of showrunner and writer Alexander Woo and The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson.

3 Body Problem is due out on Nexflix January 2024.
