The latest instalment from the Aliens franchise released this week.

Set nearly 20 years after the original film trilogy, real-time strategy game Aliens: Dark Descent has players command a squad of marines to deal with a possible xenomorph incursion.

In an interesting twist the game mechanics go out of their way to humanise the marines you’re putting in harm’s way. Stress levels are monitored and if they get too high treatment is required, which forces players to consider their squad as more than just walking guns.

Managing stress is easier said than done when every step through dank corridors could reveal a cranky xenomorph – or even a horde – around every corner.

Aliens: Dark Descent released on June 20 for Playstation, X-Box and PC.
