During the virtual LEGO Con 2022 which was streamed the weekend before last, the first ever Avatar LEGO set was unveiled with an impressive $250 (Oz) price tag.

There'll also be a live event in Sydney on July 9-10 at which you might be able to see this set. And other blocky things.

Tickets are free and can be booked online but the first round are gone.

A second will be available on July 1 at 9 AM.

Unless you're super into LEGO and or Avatar we wouldn't recommend watching the unveil.

Total yawn and the attempts at humour are a bit sad.

What about the set itself?

The Avatar film was and still is in a visual league of its own sporting an artistically stunning alien world rendered with perfectly convincing special effects.

A predominantly organic alien world.

This LEGO set has tall blue people and lots of colour but at the end of the day, are chunky blocks minus bioluminescence.

Maybe the reason there hasn't been any Avatar LEGO before this is because that translation is a massive downgrade.

Even with special effects in other sci-fi franchises improving, they're packed with lots of big blocky buildings and machinery which lend themselves more favourably to LEGO.

That said we are looking at this through adult eyes.

Children may see it differently.

Regardless of our feelings about this particular product we are pleased to see the Avatar property being grown.

With four films due to be released over the next decade and two computer games presently in development due to release this year and / or next, Avatar is going all out.

The new Avatar LEGO set has an October 1 release date.
