The second of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies hits cinemas this week.

Dune: Part Two covers the second half of Frank Herbert’s first novel and sees Timothy Chalamet back as Paul Atreides hiding in a remote corner of desert planet Arrakis with the Fremen, the blue-eyed local warriors. They have no great love for the evil Harkonnens, who recently massacred the rest of the Atreides to take control of the planet’s lucrative mining operations.

In order to secure their support, Paul must earn their respect by riding one of the giant sandworms endemic to the planet, which may help prove he is the messiah mentioned in the Fremen’s ancient propehcies.

Meanwhile the Harkonnens begin to suspect Paul wasn’t killed in the massacre and so the younger Harkonnen, Feyd-Rautha (played by Austin Butler, last seen as Elvis), is brought in deal with the problem, leading to what looks like a gripping smackdown.

While there’s plenty of material in the form of Herbert’s Dune novels and Villeneuve has said he’d be keen (after a break), there are no confirmed plans for a third Dune movie yet.

Dune: Part Two is in cinemas from February 28.
