Fallout Hits Screens

Much anticipated video game adaptation Fallout hit TV screens this week.

The series kicks off as Lucy, played by Ella Purnell, prepares to step out of the underground shelter where she’s lived her whole life into a post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, 219 years after the devastation of a nuclear war.

With the safety and comfort of the shelter behind her, Lucy encounters a harsh reality reminiscent of the wild west but with mutants, including the gun-toting Ghoul played by Walton Goggins.

Lucy quickly finds herself in trouble, but through a combination of tenacity, luck and the assistance of the mechanised Brotherhood of Steel, she starts to make her own way in the Wasteland even if her principles become compromised along the way.

Developed by the team behind Westworld, the series is not intended to faithfully replicate the video game. Showrunners Geneva Robertson-Dworet and Graham Wagner say that while they’ve had plenty of input from game studio Bethesda, they focused on delivering the crazy violence, moral dilemmas and absurdist sense of humour of the game rather than a particular storyline.

Fallout is available on Amazon Prime Video now.
