A trailer has been released for the latest Marvel TV series Echo.

Set after the events of Hawkeye, the series follows anti-hero Maya Lopez as she returns to her home town to reconnect with her Native American roots and come to terms with her past. Alaqua Cox is back in the title role.

In the comic books Lopez has powers that include the ability to mimic exactly the actions of others she observes, allowing her to pick up everything from martial arts to concert piano almost instantly. Those powers may not have made it to the series, with EP Sydney Freeland saying they’ve been dropped because "it's kind of lame".

Echo is the first of the MCU’s “spotlight” series, which are intended to have more self-contained storylines rather than the multi-verse straddling cosmic threats of the wider MCU. Marvel streaming head Brad Winderbaum has said audiences won’t need to have seen any other Mavel series to follow Maya’s story.

This is also Marvel’s first MA show, as evidenced by the gratuitous violence seen in the trailer.

Echo premieres on Disney+ January 11.
