Apple has released a teaser for the second season of Foundation.

The epic adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s novels shifts ahead by a century from the events of the first season. The Empire continues to unravel and to maintain civilisation among the outer worlds the Foundation has become a technocratic religion.

The season will be building up to another “Seldon Crisis”, one of many milestone events predicted by psycho-historian Hari Seldon who created the Foundation to lead civilisation out of the Empire’s inevitable collapse.

As we’ve noted before the TV adaptation takes significant artistic license with the events laid out in the novels. In a recent interview showrunner David S Goyer acknowledged this:

"To a certain extent, we’re dealing with the trilogy, the prequels, and the sequels. But I’ve remixed them. Some of the elements from the sequels will be showing up in Season 1, and some of the elements from the prequels will be showing up in Season 2."

So even reading the novels won’t prepare you for this season’s twists and turns.

Much of the cast is back for the new season including Jared Harris as Seldon, Lou Llobell as Dornick and Lee Pace as Brother Day. They’re joined by more of Asimov’s characters such as imperial general Bel Riose, High Priest Poly Verisof and legendary trader Hober Mallow.

Season two of Foundation premieres July 14 on Apple TV+ with season one available to stream now.
