Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire hits cinemas next week.

This is the second movie to feature both outsize creatures but this time they’re not fighting each other – they’re up against something even they’re afraid of.

The latest trailer shows Kong and an intrepid team of humans travelling deep underground to Hollow Earth which appears ready for a war led by Skar King, a giant red ape even bigger and meaner than Kong himself.

When it becomes obvious that Kong is going to need help, Godzilla arrives and tags in.

But Skar King isn’t the only surprise the Hollow Earth has in store. Ice-breathing titan Shimo also emerges to do battle and soon the action reaches the surface, with Rio de Janeiro apparently the unlucky host of the titanic smackdown.

Aside from the action the film promises to shed light on the origins of Skull Island and the Titans.

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire premieres in cinemas internationally March 27.
