A special standalone episode has been released ahead of the second season of adult animated superhero series Invincible.

Called Invincible Atom Eve, it focusses on the origin story of the molecule-manipulating hero introduced during season one, as she explores her new powers. The special episode is available now on Amazon Prime Video.

Based on the comics of the same name, Invincible follows old Mark Grayson, voiced by Steven Yuen, who is the son of the world’s most powerful hero Omni-Man, voiced by J.K Simmons. When Mark reaches his seventeenth birthday his own powers begin to emerge and he struggles with the expectation he’ll join the crimefighting business with his father.

The first season ended in an emotional showdown between superhero father and son which is where season 2 picks up, along with the introduction of a new villain, Angstrom Levy, who will be voiced by Sterling K Brown. The new season also boasts an impressive lineup of new voice talent.

It’s been over two years since season one was released, an extended wait for fans which creator Robert Kirkman blames on the complexity of producing hour long animated episodes with so many characters and scenes.

Invincible season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime Video November 3, although only the first half – four episodes – will initially be available, with the second half due early next year. Amazon has already renewed the series for a third season.
