Voting continues for the Ion Sci-Fi Screen Awards and this week the category is unique to the Ions:  Best Character.

In this category a sci-fi character is nominated rather than the actor playing them. So it would be Captain Kirk nominated in this category, rather than William Shatner, for example. 

The award recognises the development, writing and portrayal of the character – so the actor is still important, but the category also includes C-G-I generated characters and even inanimate objects. 

And the nominations are: 

• Grogu (The Mandalorian)
• Brother Dawn/Day/Dusk (Foundation)
• Sylvia Tilly (Star Trek: Discovery)
• Yelena Belova (Black Widow)
• Jeff (Finch)

To be eligible, the character must have been included in a film or on TV released in Australia during 2021.

Nominations are made by the awards expert panel which includes Ion Sci-Fi editorial staff and regular contributors to the show. A different category is presented for audience voting each week, with the results combined equally with the experts’ vote to determine the winner. 

A special edition of Ion Sci-Fi will announce the winners at the end of the current series. 

The Ion Sci-Fi Awards are presented in partnership with the Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival.
