Also seen during the Superbowl was a full trailer for the latest installment in the Planet of the Apes franchise.

We already knew the film is set several generations after 2017’s War for the Planet of the Apes, but the trailer provides more context. The apes are comfortably in charge with humans living a feral existence on the fringes. But young ape Noa notices a human female that appears to be smarter than the others and begins to wonder if there is more to the humans than he was led to believe.

At the same time local ruler Proximus Caesar has developed an interest in former human technology as a way to consolidate his power over all apes. Noa falls foul of Caesar when he attempts to protect his new human friend and as he escapes he stumbles on evidence of what humans used to be.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes hits cinemas May 10.
