Paramount+ has confirmed animated comedy series Star Trek: Lower Decks will be back early September.

The fourth season sees a galactic threat emerge in the form of an alien force capable of destroying starships. Although it initially targets non-Federation ships, when the unknown aliens turn their attention to Starfleet the Cerritos is sent in.

A new addition to the lower decks will also be introduced. Scientist T’Lyn, last seen in season two, has been transferred to Starfleet after annoying her fellow Vulcans.

The new season teases the possibility of promotions, and previews of Titan Book’s upcoming Crew Handbook contain references to at least a couple of the lower deckers with extra rank pips.

Written by journalist and author Chris Farnell, the USS Cerritos Crew Handbook is described as a “funny and illuminating guide to life on the USS Cerritos" and appears stuffed with as many jokes and easter eggs as the series. Fans will need to wait until mid-October to get their hands on the book, with pre-orders open now at Amazon.

Season four of Star Trek: Lower Decks premieres on Paramount+ September 7.
