A live-action series based on the popular manga Parasyte is on the way to Netflix.

Parasyte: The Grey is produced out of Korea and is based on an invasion of Earth by parasite creatures that get into human skulls and take over their hosts. The result isn’t just the glowing eyes and altered voice familiar to Stargate viewers, but a much more spectacular transformation.

The plucky human race isn’t going to take the invasion lying down and a struggle ensues to save the planet.

The franchise has already seen an anime series and two live action films produced in Japan. Rather than a sequel, Parasyte: The Grey is a new story based on Hitoshi Iwaaki’s original manga. The lead protagonist is Jung Soo In, who enters into a strange cohabitation with one of the creatures after it enters her body but fails to take over her brain.

Series co-creator and director Yeon Sang-ho has impeccable genre credentials, having previously directed zombie film Train to Busan.

Parasyte: The Grey premieres on Netflix April 5. The trailer has captions but the series will be dubbed in English.
