Paramount+ have announced that the Star Trek: Section 31 concept long rumoured to be in development is now official, but will be an “event movie” for the streaming service rather than a series.

Michelle Yeoh will reprise the role of larger-than-life Emperor Philippa Georgiou who, pulled from an alternate universe where she was supreme ruler, has joined the super-secret division of StarFleet Intelligence known as Section 31.

Originally introduced in Deep Space Nine, the off-the-books Section 31 is responsible for black ops so black that StarFleet would prefer not to know about them.

So the perfect place for Georgiou.

Craig Sweeny will write and executive produce the film, with Discovery veteran Olatunde Osunsanmi directing.

Production is expected to begin later this year.
