Taika Waititi - The Incal
Posted By:

Deadline report that acclaimed New Zealand director Taika Waititi of Thor: Ragnarok fame, who is already working on a Star Wars film, has also signed up to write and direct a new to film sci-fi property, The Incal.

Busy fellow. That's what you get for being good.

Be advised that the first 2 minutes of the embedded YouTube video is The Incal's creator essentially saying that he's too old to direct so, Taika.

Who then speaks for another minute but also doesn't really reveal much about The Incal.

So what is it? For a short version of its wikipedia entry....

A popular French sci-fi comic in which a regular guy is gifted a cosmically powerful crystal by a dying alien.

Has some adventures.

Maybe becomes a better person as a result of them.

Those ideas aren't new but the setting is and with Taikia writing and directing, it's likely to be fun viewing.

Interestingly there's a note about the comic's publishers suing Luc Besson, claiming that the brilliant and very popular The Fifth Element "borrowed" heavily from The Incal.

According to The Incal's creator, the suit was lost because their artist worked directly on that film.

So that might give us an idea of what to expect visually from this new movie. The Fifth Element was a feast for the eyes.
