To promote the recent upload of nearly every Doctor Who episode ever produced to the BBC iPlayer, omnibus episodes have been released featuring the return of actors from throughout the long-running series.
The Tales of the TARDIS feature past Doctors including Peter Davison, Colin Baker and Sylvester McCoy along with companions from theirs and other eras of the show.
Each of the Tales is based on an iconic Doctor Who story from the archive, book-ended with reminiscences of returning actors from those episodes and edited down to a single 90 minute episode.
The fifth Doctor (Davison) is joined by companion Tegan to relive Earthshock (1982), which saw the rare death of a companion when Adric (Matthew Waterhouse) was blown up thwarting a Cyberman threat.
The sixth Doctor (Baker) and Peri are back for Vengeance on Varos (1985) and Ace (Sophie Aldred) rejoins Sylvester MccCoy’s seventh Doctor for The Curse of Fenric (1989).
Companions represent the earlier eras with the second Doctor’s companions Jamie (Fraser Hines) and Zoe (Wendy Padbury) reunited for The Mind Robber (1968). Jo Grant (Katie Manning) is joined by Clyde Langer (Daniel Anothony) from spin-off series The Sarah Jane Adventures for The Three Doctors (1972).
Sadly there are no plans for an international release of Tales of the TARDIS which is currently only available on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
