This week in Australia, Mortal Kombat, which released in cinemas April last year, joined Netflix.

It's fantasy / sci-fi - there's a fellow with cybernetic arms in the trailer - and regarded as a bit of a bomb with critics but interestingly even in the midst of the COVID pandemic managed to be HBO's most successful film launch up to that point.

Box office performance was modest but it also released simultaneously on streaming service HBO Max in the US.

It was filmed and produced in South Australia so there's a local connection.
