Strange Strange World

One thing we've seen but not previously commented on are widespread complaints that Disney failed to promote animated film Strange World, which resulted in a huge theatrical $100 million (US) loss.

Lightyear not being awesome and some of the Strange World teasers also underwhelming we had assumed that it was just a dud film and Disney had wisely cut their losses. But it having arrived on Disney+ we've now seen it and are puzzled.

Found earlier trailers promising but this one falls flat and we'd actually tuned out by its end.

Catch Up

Post several major gaming conventions and also separeate developer showcases, it has been a very slow but not completely unremarkable week for sci-fi.

Here's a catch up.

Quiet Gay Disney First

Because of their history Disney aren't openly shouting this one from the rooftops and major publications like Variety are glossing right over it, but at the Annecy animation film festival Disney played Strange World footage showing one of the main characters, a teenager, flirting with another boy at school.

Another Disney+ Surprise

Marvel recently surprised everyone with the announcement that freshly released in cinemas Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness would begin streaming on Disney+ after just a month and a half on the big screen.

Disney have also announced that in order to circumvent French law which requires a 17 month delay between cinematic and streaming release, Strange World will not have a cinematic release in France.

Strange World

Not to be confused with Paramount's Strange New Worlds, Disney Animation Studio's Strange World is a sci-fi film about space exploration but obviously minus anything Star Trek.

As shown in this teaser trailer, the world in question is stupendously strange.
