We watched the announcement trailer for new survival horror game Beneath and all we could muster was, "Oh another one."

In fairness it's not a genre we play so the failure of this video to move us may be personal.

Though we do watch many game trailers and see nothing new or remarkable in this.

Were it not such an incredibly quiet time on the sci-fi entertainment trailer front we'd have simply passed on it.

Does the game improve upon closer examination?

Not to our eye.

As a seasoned deep-sea diver, Noah Quinn is no stranger to adventure. However, a sudden turn of events plunges him into a nightmare scenario.
While struggling to stay afloat in the murky depths after the unbelievable happened, Noah stumbles upon a strange and remote scientific facility.
With unknown dangers lurking beneath the surface, he must brave a treacherous underwater world plagued by horrors beyond his wildest imagination.

In the depths of the ocean, far beyond the reach of human civilization, lies a complex of scientific research stations unlike any that have come before. The stations were built by a group of curious minds, driven by a thirst for knowledge and a fascination with the unknown. But they soon discovered that they had ventured too far, into a realm where sanity and reason do not hold sway. These research stations are a testament to the boundless curiosity of man, but they are also a warning of the dangers that lie ahead, as we delve too deeply into the mysteries of the cosmos. For those who venture here, it may be too late to turn back, and the price of their knowledge may be their very sanity.

Is "staying afloat" a good metaphor to use in a game set on the ocean floor?

And for all that science-gone-wrong is a common plot for horror games, philosophically we lean in the direction of Star Trek boldly going where no-one has gone before rather than fearing the unknown.

Beneath has no release date or even ETA but will be available on PC (Steam).
