With Doctor Who's 60th Anniversary return half a year away, we hadn't been expecting to hear much on this front for some months but the BBC have surprised us.

Preceding this year's specials will be a trans media event called Doom's Day.

DOOM’S DAY is a huge new adventure for the whole Doctor Who universe - starring the brilliant and hilarious Sooz Kempner as an intergalactic assassin. Her adventures will span comics, audio, a novel, video games stories and more, expanding the world of Doctor Who into brand new territories. Beware the Doom’s Day, it’s coming for us all.

Separately none of those are new territories for Doctor Who and in 2021 they ran the #FindTheDoctor ARG (alternate reality game) to promote The Flux series.

Down to the deets:

Doom’s Day will kick off on Doctor Who digital channels later this year followed by products from Doctor Who Magazine, Titan Comics, Penguin Random House, East Side Games, Big Finish and BBC Audio, each telling a section of Doom’s story.

Each partner will create their own adventures for DOOM’S DAY, each focusing on one of the 24 hours Doom has left on the clock. The standalone stories will also have an overarching narrative that will play out before the finale which will release on Doctor Who digital channels.

So it's set in the Doctor Who universe but focused on some new character seeking the Doc.

We are eye rolling slightly.

In all seriousness we're not snobs who will only engage with content which includes the Doc but as we commented in relation to a The Walking Dead live event, it's the series' characters and stories which fans love.

Not doomsaying this one.

It may be a raging success.

But it hasn't hooked us.

Yet at least.

We are still in the pond and may nibble if they dangle something tasty looking in.
