Though we are not a fan of Zack Snyder and haven't watched anything of his since the embarrassing 2020 re-release of Justice League, we have been keeping an eye on his Rebel Moon film with Netflix.

Up until a few days ago there hadn't been much of substance beyond casting decisions. Now we have a synopsis.

The movie’s about a planet not in our...it’s a space fantasy so there’s no Earth necessarily. But there’s a community on a planet, a farming planet, and there’s a bunch of bad guys from other worlds armies are in the area and they need to be fed so they come to the village and ask for the village to feed them while they’re doing their war in that area of the galaxy. And of course, they are not kind about asking and the result will probably be the obliteration of the village itself. The villagers decide to fight and so they have to go out into the galaxy and collect warriors to help them.

One of the few things we knew before this was of his intention for this to be an epic new sci-fi franchise.

Was expecting much more than the old farmers needing help plot, which is far from new.

Star Wars is vulnerable right now but we doubt this film poses much of a threat.

Avatar's plot also wasn't super original, but Zack Snyder is not in the same league as James Cameron and Rebel Moon probably also won't boast mind-blowing special effects.

Though perhaps they can squeeze in a shamelessly merchandisable character like baby Yoda.

We will continue to keep a distant eye on this one.

Rebel Moon doesn't currently have an ETA but will release on Netflix.
