Netflix have announced a season two premiere date of April 20 for Russian Doll accompanied by a short trailer.

If you're not familar with it, it's one of those time-looping deals.

Nadia keeps dying and reliving her 36th birthday party. She's trapped in a surreal time loop -- and staring down the barrel of her own mortality.

What's season 2 about?

Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped mortality's time loop together, season two of Russian Doll will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan's most notorious locations. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.

Must confess to not having seen this one ourselves.

We recognise it from scrolling through Netflix but neither blurb nor teaser reached through the screen and insisted that we watch.

Having a look now at the impressive critical response, many award nominations and a few small wins we decided to look at what its showrunners and directors have previously had a hand in.

One of the three directors, Jamie Babbit, has directed an episode of The Orville (season one's Cupid's Dagger), several episodes of Silicon Valley, United States of Tara, Ugly Betty, Alias and Malcolm in the Middle. Excellent credentials. Plus lots of other things we haven't seen.

We will make this time month to watch the first season, which is available now on Netflix.

Season two of Russian Doll premieres on Netflix on April 20.

Star Natasha Lyonne's voice can also be heard in cinemas in (probably) July in DC League of Super Pets as Merton the superspeedy turtle.
