Star Trek Doco Interview

Space.com has published an insightful and frank interview with Brian Volk-Weiss, the director of the new Star Trek documentary, The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek' series.

It's much more than a standard documentary film. It's a 10 part docu-series airing on The History Channel in the US.

We couldn't find any info for Australian release but will keep an eye out.

When the first teaser for this was unveiled we commented on the curious absence of the new Star Trek series and wondered what that might be about.

No more need to wonder.

Space.com: Are you pleased with the direction of the newer "Star Trek: Discovery" series and animated shows, and if handed the keys to the franchise where would you take it?

Volk-Weiss: Here's my positive answer. I'm very pleased with "Star Trek: Lower Decks," and I'll leave it at that.

Actual gasp.

While we try to keep commentary balanced, we have to confess to also not loving all of the modern content.

A documentary like this could be healthy for the franchise.

If there's any hope of recovery from missteps, there has to be honesty.

Also, a 10 hour love letter to the "good old days" might resonate with the disenfranchised.
