The US National Film Registry has revealed its annual list of 25 movies for inclusion in the registry.

Two big sci-fi films are among them - Star Wars: Return of the Jedi and WALL-E, with the former scoring the highest number of public votes from among a list of 6150 films.

That kind of massive public support is truly remarkable but entirely deserved.

John Ptak of the American Film Institute and a member of the National Film Preservation Board who consult with the Registry had this to say:

The National Film Preservation Board is very pleased with the inclusion of Return of the Jedi to the National Film Registry. George [Lucas] has created such great characters with enduring stories that are fresh with every viewing. The success and influence of the Star Wars series films on filmmakers, the industry and a global audience is remarkable and will stand the test of time.

A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back had previously been included in 1989 (the registry's first year) and 2010 respectively.
