Star Wars Unhinged
Posted By:

If you thought Star Wars couldn't top a $6000 (US) a weekend LARP for merchandising madness, you might want to grab a drink for this one.

But not their new one, which will set you back $5000 (US).

Available on the Disney Wish cruise ship it's a cocktail served in a box which opens complete with a small cloud of gas.

The glass, but not box, can be kept and there are a few extras like a backpack, water bottle and bottle of wine.

Most notably a visit to George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch which isn't open to the public.

What can we say?

Let's pass this one to Gizmodo's Sabina Graves:

We can’t get over how unhinged the drink concept is on top of the cost of the cruise. The commodification of Star Wars here is truly astonishing and out of touch for the beloved stories it represents.

Our readers would know that a long time ago in what feels like a galaxy far, far away, we were huge Star Wars fans.

But have disengaged and regard everything coming out of now Disney owned Lucasfilm as not really Star Wars.

Disney recently revealed first details about the plot for their Sith focused Acolyte prequel series and it includes another colossal retcon.

Headland describes The Acolyte as a mystery thriller set in a prosperous and seemingly peaceful era, when the galaxy is still sleek and glistening. “We actually use the term the Renaissance, or the Age of Enlightenment,” she says. Jedis were not always ascetic monklike figures living selflessly and bravely. “The Jedi uniforms are gold and white, and it’s almost like they would never get dirty. They would never be out and about,” Headland says. “The idea is that they could have these types of uniforms because that’s how little they’re getting into skirmishes.”

The Jedi weren't faultless but were never decadent or lazy.

What could possibly motivate Disney to make this ridiculous retcon?

An abhorrence of heroic figures who live humbly and own no possessions.

Just a lightsaber, or sometimes two.

George Lucas made his fortune from Star Wars merchandising.

New owners Disney may foolishly have first thought to dismantle and diminish the Jedi in their films and series, so fans would focus on something they could merchandise more viciously.

And are now rewriting Jedi history to give them more bling, which will be merchandised viciously.

In the meantime please buy this $5000 cocktail.

No, we don't recommend it.
