Some of the jokes in Netflix's trailer for upcoming kids sci-fi series The Last Bus might be a bit old and ones we adults have heard many times before.

The basic premise of well intentioned technology having unintended and dire consequences which endanger humanity also isn't new, but the lone survivors being half a dozen children who drive off in a bus together is unfamiliar territory.

A group of mismatched students on a school trip become unlikely heroes when a robot apocalypse zaps away the rest of humanity.

Spoiler alert - towards the end of the trailer we see the bus flying!

Thinking back to our childhood this is exactly the kind of show we probably would have wanted to see.

The Last Bus releases on Netflix on April 1.
