Miju Games have announced an Early Access release date of March 24 for their unique survival and terraforming game, Planet Crafter. There's a short trailer.

We tried this one's demo during one of last year's Steam Next fests - FYI there's one running now, but only a few days left - and also the beta version. Enjoyed it.

As a decades long sci-fi fan we finally got to experience one of the genre's oft mentioned but rarely centre stage activities - bringing life to lifeless planets.

Up close and personal.

You're a one person terraforming team and it's you versus a presently lifeless (their roadmap mentions local flora), red planet.

No hostile aliens. Just a lack of oxygen.

No guns. You're armed with a supremely green thumb.

Not literally of course. With various technologies you need to raise oxygen and water levels and then bring the green.

Visually it's of a similar style to Subnautica but rather than just diving in and beginning to "ooh" and "aah" at all the pretty sea life, you begin the game with a red landscape and your efforts and design create a lush world.

Which you can "ooh" and "aah" at with the added satisfaction value of the artistry being yours.

Already enjoyable several months ago, they've since added features like alien trees and DNA manipulation which we're very keen to see.

If you want or need the hostile presence factor (i.e. combat) common in many games, this one obviously might not appeal to you, but we think this two person indie development team are creating a great survival terraformer.

Planet Crafer releases on Steam in Early Access on March 24, with a reduced launch week price of $19.99 US.
