The ever expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe has just dropped the trailer for what will be its first phase five series, Secret Invasion.

Personally we haven't been super excited for any of the Marvel series offerings. Until this one.

Continuing the alien shapeshifting Skrull infiltration of Earth storyline introduced in the Captain Marvel film.

Samuel L. Jackson returns in the role of former S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury and is joined by Australia's Ben Mendelsohn as the ally Skrull Talos, Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as C.I.A. agent Everett K. Ross and Don Cheadle as War Machine.

Its creator and co-executive producer is Kyle Bradstreet who co-executive produced and wrote nine episodes of Mr. Robot.

We loved the (US) ABC network's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series, and also enjoyed Captain Marvel and Mr. Robot so this one feels like it has major promise.

Also in the cast are the widely loved Olivia Colman and the dragonrider so many people wanted to become Queen, Emilia Clarke, in an undisclosed but described as main role.

If Secret Invasion lives up to our hopes it would be her first real success beyond Game of Thrones.

We shall not speak of Terminator Genisys.

Emilia was good in Solo: A Star Wars Story and that film one of the best new Star Wars offerings.

But it bombed at the box office - we think because of how bad the new trilogy films are rather than Solo - and critics were not kind to it.

So it's widely regarded as a dud.

Secret Invasion will premiere on Disney+ in early 2023 and consist of six episodes.
