Starfield Surprise

Action roleplaying game Starfield was previously scheduled to release last year (11/11/2022) then bumped to the first half of this year - which is approaching half over and packed with other major releases.

Many were expecting its release date to be revealed in a promised developer deep dive, but this morning Bethesda dropped a release date reveal trailer - September 6.

Big Devs To Skip E3

Though not official at this stage, IGN claims multiple sources tell them that all three of the major console developers - Xbox, Sony and Nintendo - intend to skip this year's E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo).

Sony last attended in 2018 and it's not clear whether the withdrawal of the other big two is due to event management problems or continuation of a trend towards big developers doing their own thing.

Redfall Pre-Order

Long anticipated and repeatedly delayed - descriptors which apply to many major gaming titles releasing this year - open world vampire hunter shooter Redfall yesterday announced a firm (probably) May 2 release date.

Also showing us more gameplay. Following that up today is their official pre-order trailer to let us all know that we can start throwing money at them.

Releasing today.

Microsoft Direct

Apart from one brief advertisement, Microsoft was conspicuously absent from December's The Game Awards ceremony, which is one of the main venues for major game announcements and trailer reveals.

Seems they're doing their own thing - a new Microsoft games livestream they've called Developer_Direct. The first will take place on January 26 at 9 a.m. (AEDT).

Bethesda Retiring Launcher

Game development studio Bethesda have announced the closure of their dedicated launcher in May and that all games purchased on it can be migrated to Steam beginning in April.

This marks the end of their attempt to compete with Steam as an electronic storefront and retain the sizeable cut of revenues which Steam claim.

Starfield on Steam

Bethesda's space roleplaying gameĀ Starfield now has a Steam page.

With almost a year to go until launch, that might not seem significant and even those eager to play it likely won't be excited by this. But it is noteworthy.
