Though not official at this stage, IGN claims multiple sources tell them that all three of the major console developers - Xbox, Sony and Nintendo - intend to skip this year's E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo).

Sony last attended in 2018 and it's not clear whether the withdrawal of the other big two is due to event management problems or continuation of a trend towards big developers doing their own thing.

In the case of Nintendo it's also possible that with the Nintendo Switch nearing the end of it's lifecycle, Nintendo just don't have enough new titles to warrant putting in an appearance.

Xbox owner Microsoft will host their own showcase at a time "convenient for press and even consumers".

This year's E3 is scheduled for June 13-16 at the Los Angeles Convention Center.
