Apple Renews Invasion
Posted By:

Apple has renewed fledgling alien invasion series, Invasion ahead of its season 1 finale which streams on December 10.

It has not been a hit with critics and audiences scoring it 46% and 45% respectively on Rotten Tomatoes.

Simon Kinberg is creator, writer and executive producer, but not director or showrunner. That job appears to have bounced around between multiple staff.

Simon is slightly infamous for the more than slightly tragic X-Men Dark Phoenix film which he wrote, produced and directed.

He wrote and produced the mediocre X-Men: Apocalypse.

Though he also has some excellent writing and / or producing credits like X-Men: Days of Future Past which is probably why he created and wrote, but didn't direct this.

But perhaps he was originally intended to direct. Simon's Wikipedia entry currently records him as directing Invasion (contradicting its page), as well as the roles he actually filled and Invasion went into production in January 2019, before Dark Phoenix's release in June of the same year.

Yes it all adds up.

With the show's budget reported to be $200 million, renewal might have been likely courtesy of economics. Much of that expense will have been sets, props and other resources which can be re-used in a second season.

It doesn't sound promising but is one we'll take a look at we have the opportunity.
