Possibly other things too but in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, director Denis Villeneuve expressed a desire to do more Dune.

That's not to say that he's just looking to stretch out the remainder of the current story to span three films.

Rather he said that he'd consider himself blessed if he could do the already announced second film and also an adaption of the following book in the series, Dune: Messiah.

Beyond that? He indicated that the books become increasingly "psychedelic" and he doesn't know how they could be adapted.

But he didn't say that he couldn't or wouldn't if given the opportunity. He only said:

One thing at a time.

That one thing is Dune II, with an ETA  of October 2023.
