Netflix have announced both a live action film and "adult" animated series in development based on the Gears of War third-person shooter game series.

Not a series we've played, but we're aware of it and its success.

In addition to being the latest in a long line of game to film or tv adaptations, Gears of War is owned by Microsoft and the series is an Xbox exclusive.

Sony announced a Netflix series based on their PlayStation Horizon Zero Dawn series in May.

This announcement gives both consoles a presence on the Netflix scene though the Horizon series will be helmed by The Umbrella Academy's Steve Blackman who will write in partnership with Killjoy's Michelle Lovretta.

Two brilliant shows.

Gears could also be great but in a race between the two, we'd already throw down money on Horizons.

This new series also gives Microsoft a gaming presence across multiple streaming platforms.

Bethesda is another studio in their collection and there's the Fallout series currently filming for Amazon.

Netflix gave no indication of when to expect either the film or series.
