Geeked Week Games
Posted By:

Netflix conducted their fifth and final day of livestreaming for their annual Geeked Week event celebrating upcoming genre content.

Day Five was dedicated to gaming and while we don't have enough time to watch the full three hour stream, we have looked at all of the new teasers and trailers.

Netflix have announced their intention to seriously get into game development.

So far their efforts have been unremarkable and none of the games in stream are attention grabbers.

Even if they weren't up against June's blitz of game trailers.

What they did do was share footage for several new series based on games.

Sonic Prime and Castlevania: Nocturne are both a little bit sci-fi and Dragon Age: Absolution is pure fantasy but derived from one of gaming's biggest fantasy franchises.

Were Netflix just trying to not to look insignificant relative to other game developers?

Or is this another sign of the entertainment industry's drive to bring together gaming, film and television?

Probably both.

We only recently watched Netflix's other Castlevania animated series which has the interesting honour of being Rotten Tomatoes' first video game adaptation to achieve a Fresh rating.

It is an exceptional animated series.

Can they do it again?

We'd like to know but this series doesn't have an ETA. Ditto for Sonic Prime.

The fantasy series Dragon Age: Absolution will release in December on Netflix.
