In a video interview with Vanity Fair, Chris Hemsworth talks about both his appearance in J. J. Abrams' first Star Trek film and the possibility of his reprising the role.

Sort of. Maybe. Possibly.

There was talk about me doing the film with Chris Pine at one point. The script was sort of put together and then fell apart.

If J.J. Abrams called me tomorrow and said, "Chris Pine and I want to do it", I'd probably say, "Yeah, let's go for it."

The earlier Star Trek script didn't just fall apart.

In 2018 The Hollywood Reporter claimed that salary negotiations failed with both Chris Hemsworth and Chris Pine.

The following year in a Variety interview Chris Hemsworth said that the issue was the script.

I didn’t feel like we landed on a reason to revisit that yet. I didn’t want to be underwhelmed by what I was going to bring to the table.

One of the key cast having publicly criticised the script, then it fell apart.

We're not criticising him for criticising it.

He may have done us a huge favour.

Mark Hamill complained about the script for Star Wars: The Last Jedi but he had already signed on by that point.

When I read [episode] eight I told Rian, ‘I fundamentally disagree with virtually everything you’ve decided about my character’. It was as shocking to me to read what Rian had written as I’m sure it will be for the audience.

Star Wars might be in much better shape now had he instead read the script before signing a contract, and then rejected it.

The current status of the next Star Trek film is still up in the air.

At the beginning of this year Paramount boldly announced that it would begin filming this year without having secured contracts with any of the main cast.

Since then all we've heard is that the main cast still haven't been shown a script.

Chris Hemsworth can next be seen in Netflix film Spiderhead which releases tomorrow and Marvels' Thor: Love and Thunder which releases in Australian cinemas on July 7.
