Holographic Laser
Posted By:

A Chinese laboratory has showcased a new holographic laser which can strip electrons from air molecules to create light.

This differs from other lasers which require some medium in the air like dust or clouds.

The duration of these holograms is short - one quadrillionth of a second - and the energy requirements high so don't expect commercially available holodecks to be opening around the corner next week.

But its creators are hopeful of improving the technology for real world applications.
