JUNG_E Trailer

Netflix have released the full trailer for upcoming original film JUNG_E by Train to Busan and Hellbound director Yeon Sang-ho.

Having enjoyed his previous work we were hooked by the earlier teaser but this new footage has reeled us in.

When examining their synopses we suggested that it was novel to see artificial intelligence presented in a seemingly positive light, but wondered if the typical (for sci-fi) nightmare scenario might arise.

In a post-apocalyptic near-future, a researcher at an AI lab leads the effort to end a civil war by cloning the brain of a heroic soldier — her mother.

South Korean horror master Yeon Sang-ho (Train to Busan, Hellbound) directs this dystopian portrait of “a desolated Earth in the 22nd century that is no longer inhabitable due to climate change. Amid the chaos, an internal war breaks out in the shelter built for human survival. Victory — meaning the end of the war — now hinges on finding a way to clone the legendary mercenary JUNG_E into a scalable robot.”

However what we see in this trailer is the A.I. arguably abused in testing and / or production facilities and the daughter utter the command, "Be free".

Now that's fresh and spicy.

If both this and HBO's The Last of Us series (in Australia available on Binge) live up to their promise, it could be a very strong start to the sci-fi year.

JUNG_E releases on Netflix on January 20 and it's one we eagerly await.
