Variety report that following a joint statement by Pixar employees and allies protesting Disney executives censoring "overtly gay affection", a previously cut same-sex kiss has been restored to upcoming film Lightyear.

Between the character Hawthorne (voiced by Uzo Aduba) and her female partner.

It's interesting to get this insider's perspective because from the outside Disney seem to be moving in the right direction.

For example we recently saw them refuse to cut scenes from Eternals to get it on screen in several Middle Eastern countries.

And indeed the theory proffered by Variety is that such content is self-censored by Pixar believing that it won't be approved by Disney executives who fear losing film revenue from markets hostile to LGBTQ content.

We also suspect that there could be homegrown hostility, stemming from the Star Trek and Star Wars debacles.

An audience who now associate improved diversity entertainment with poor quality and dishonest critics.
