Looking to Tomorrow
Posted By:

Apple have released a first look for upcoming retro futuristic timeshare on the moon series Hello Tomorrow!

In this case that's a lot of chatting with cast plus a bit of new screen and behind the scenes footage.

We're still absolutely loving the look of this one.

In terms of cast commentary we found these two snippets noteworthy.

Billy Crudup (Jack Billings):

All of the gadgets break at a certain point.

Your bartender robot might be able to serve you a beer from its belly but there might be a little bit of motor oil in it.

We promise perfection and what we deliver is human.

Perhaps it's because we had recently been reading about efforts in the United States to promote autonomous weaponry as both superior and more reliable than humans that this stood out.

Technology can certainly be fallible but theoretically and in practice can also sometimes be far more reliable than people.

Of course there's the question of what is human?

Alongside massive leaps forward in artificial intelligence are important strides towards the possibility of mechanically or biologically enhanced humans.

Humans as they exist today are known to suffer from a range of insurmountable limitations.

Evolution is inherently semi-random and we only ever had to be a little bit better than our closest competition.

So successful have we been that we really don't have any competition, unless you take it down to the microscope scale and consider the cold virus.

Onto the second.

Alison Pill (Myrtle Mayburn):

It is funny and thoughtful and odd but everybody in their own way is trying to be a better human.

Tastes occupy a broad spectrum but we suspect that many sci-fi fans, especially older ones, would respond very warmly to this notion as did we.

With the exception of proper villains which do exist in sci-fi, this sums up what we love most about many great sci-fi shows.

Doctor Who, Old Star Trek and Star Wars, Stargates SG-1 and Atlantis, Avatar, The Orville, Killjoys, The Umbrella Academy.

If this news series from Apple delivers on this score then it might easily win over many sci-fi fans seeking that brighter tomorrow.

Hello Tomorrow! premieres on Apple TV+ on February 17 with three episodes, and the remaining seven releasing weekly.
