Netflix have dropped a teaser for a new animated series called My Dad the Bounty Hunter.

Coming this February.

Just recently we were commenting on Netflix's tendency to unveil potentially less stellar upcoming titles a month or so before release with minimal fanfare.

This doesn't appear to be one of those, being several months out and beginning with a teaser rather than leaping straight to a trailer.

We also expressed doubt about Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon films to knock Star Wars off their pedestal.

Then there's this series which in terms of premise doesn't exactly scream Star Wars but, Bounty Hunters are a thing in Star Wars and there are obvious visual nods to that long-running franchise.

The trailing stars warp speed effect in the cockpit, ship interiors, huge hangars, the cityscape which looks very reminiscent of a night-time Coruscant, the angled, block headed robot, etc. etc.

We're not in rip-off or IP infringement territory but as a potential viewer we're getting a really strong Star Wars vibe.

Mmmm.

Its creators are Everett Downing Jr and Patrick Hairpin who say this of the show:

My Dad The Bounty Hunter is a love letter to animation, science fiction, and Black families rolled into a crazy action-comedy. We threw everything we love about sci-fi into this show, but it’s the family at the center of the story that we’re most excited about.

Everett brings with him a little bit of Oscar sparkle, having been the animator for Oscar winning short Hair Love.

Trailers rarely showcase any title's flaws so we're hesitant to become too excited by this one, but they've certainly grabbed our attention.

My Dad the Bounty Hunter is coming this February to Netflix.
