Disney have released a trailer for an upcoming French series which is being described as sci-fi adventure with a touch of comedy and a little bit Stranger Things.

It's called Parallels and is about a group of teenagers who while hanging out together one evening become a bit messed up in time.

One becomes older, two are cast into the future and also age though maybe less, and we see one of them seemingly develop the ability to freeze time.

At least that's what it looks like in the trailer.

Its description and title suggest otherwise.

“Parallels” tells the story of four friends – Bilal, Romane, Samuel and Victor – whose lives are turned upside down when a mysterious event scatters the group into different timelines. The four teenagers will do all they can to understand what has happened and try to get back to the carefree innocence of their former lives.

Typically in sci-fi "timelines" refer to alternate (aka parallel) realities where events have transpired somewhat differently.

Not sure that fits here - especially for the one who ages but remains in the present.

If this is an alternate timeline that would raise questions about why an adult male is partying alone with a young'ish teenage boy in a remote location.

Doesn't seem very Disney.

Variety quote a Disney France VP saying:

The sci-fi genre is relatively uncommon in French series...

Maybe being less familiar with sci-fi they've made a poor choice of title and description.

Or possibly it makes sense in some fashion which won't be apparent until you watch it.

Either way we don't have long to wait.

All six episodes of Parallels will release on Disney+ on March 23.
