Curiously coming to us through Comicbook.com rather than Paramount or Star Trek accounts we have the trailer for Star Trek: Picard's third and final season.

It's action packed and a far cry from the old man (Picard) moping about a vineyard promo which launched this series to cries of what-the-f is this?

The main cast from Star Trek: The Next Generation are all here and it does evoke a sense of old-school Star Trek good spirited adventure.

Not terribly original.

Trust no-one.

A growing, all consuming darkness

This is the end my friend.

The final voyage begins. Really? How many times have we heard that before?

We fight or we die.

But when your target is nostalgia originality is arguably counterproductive.

Who is this new enemy?

We only know her name, Vadic, played by Amanda Plummer.

Haven't seen much of this series so could be missing many other clues but the long, curved prongs seen on the front of one vessel could be Romulan, like the mining ship Narada in the first J. J. Abrams film.

The mmorpg Star Trek Online adapted their broad aesthetic for a series of present (i.e. Picard) era Tal Shiar (Romulan intelligence service) vessels which incorporate Borg technology.

Picard's final season premieres on Prime Video on February 16.
