Nominees for the 42nd Raspberry Awards have been announced and courtesy of two films, sci-fi has netted a slew of nominations.

Those films are Space Jam: A New Legacy and Infinite.

Also Bruce Willis for Apex and Cosmic Sin in a special category this year - Worst Performance by Bruce Willis in a 2021 Movie.

As it happened we had watched Infinite the day before these were announced.

We are amazed that it didn't receive a nomination for Worst Screenplay. Infinite's writing is among the worst we've ever seen and even extends to sets and props.

In an early scene one character explains what the Infinites are - a super secret group - in a car with infinity logos plastered across the headrests.

They drive to a hangar with a private jet inside.

Clearly visible is an infinity symbol on the jet's exterior.

Cut to a scene with their opponents discussing the need to track the "secret" group down.

Try looking for infinity symbols. They're really not hiding.

In another scene the main character picks up a book off a desk and flicks through some pages.

Why pick up that book, another character asks him?

It means something. He wrote it in a previous life and must be remembering that.

Erm, no.

If there's a lone book on a table picking it up and having a look is the kind of thing any person might do.

So the whole conversation is hilariously stupid.

Exact same dialog would have worked had he plucked the book out of a bookshelf full of other works he hadn't written.

The film is full to the brim this and other kinds of idiocy but with slick special effects, a solid cast and generally good performances.

We're not sure that either Mark Wahlberg or Sophie Cookson deserve their worst acting nominations. It's the story and dialog which are dreadful.

Infinite is available on Paramount+. No streaming service carries Space Jam: A New Legacy.

Razzie winners will be announced on March 26.
