Secret EA Game Canned
Posted By:

Alongside the six week delay of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a few days ago was another unannounced development at Respawn Entertainment - the cancellation of an unannounced game.

Following delivery of a disappointing outlook for current quarter revenue a single-player game based on the Apex Legends and Titanfall properties codenamed Titanfall Legends was dropped.

The 50 person development team were informed that EA would attempt to find other positions for them within the company.

Interestingly its creative director Mohammad Alavi departed the company and project a little over a year ago.

We didn't play Titanfall and only remember it sounding very promising when announced but it didn't quite hit the mark (2014) and was very quickly followed by a sequel (2016).

Odd.

Triple A games typically spend in the region of five-ish years in development and the typical response to a successful game is to release paid expansions and / or cosmetic DLC.

Not a rushed sequel.

The original having not made much of a splash, the sequel barely registered.

Don't know what we would have made of this one which no-one will ever get to see now.

On the other hand the report of a disappointing revenue outlook is something we can interpret.

Steam's top wishlist isn't the only indicator of interest in upcoming games but being the biggest digital storefront for PC, it's a fairly good relative one.

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor currently occupies 22nd position, excluding free to play titles.

This is a very crowded year for game releases but Star Wars is a major franchise and the original game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order was popular.

Possibly last year's Elden Ring is a superior souls-like to Fallen Order and what players expect of Survivor.

Elden Ring was made by FromSoftware who invented the souls-like genre and the game is superb. Many people are still playing it nearly a year after launch.

Maybe the Star Wars name has lost its shine?

Perhaps there are just too many massive, action adventure games on this year's slate.

Player time and money is limited.

Fantasy Hogwarts Legacy (wishlist first position) releases next week and Starfield (wishlist third position) is still scheduled to release in the first half of this year.

Taking your time to enjoy the scenery, each game could potentially deliver several hundred hours of enjoyment.

Gamers might be looking at any game in a similar vein, like Jedi Survivor, and think why buy it if I wouldn't have time to play immediately?

Wait and it will go on sale.

We are very curious to see how it performs.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is now scheduled to launch on April 28 on PC, Xbox X|S and PS5.
