If you were surprised by the recent announcement that Paramount were planning to enter negotiations with cast for the eternally trapped in development Star Trek 4, you're not alone.

According to The Hollywood Reporter most of the actors and their representatives didn't know this was coming - that they'd be shooting a film this year.

THR go on to detail some of the film's previous difficulties, changes at Paramount and suggest that the actors are now in a very strong pay bargaining position.

The presently untitled next Star Trek film is scheduled to release in December 2023.
