According to Variety, inside sources tell them that both the Patty Jenkins Rogue Squadron and the untitled Kevin Feige Star Wars films have been scrapped.

Taika Waititi's film has survived the culling but it won't be known whether his or some other project is now head of the movie line until this year's Star Wars celebration in April when plans will be officially unveiled.

Of note, Kevin's film had Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness writer Michael Waldron attached to it.

In our view that film is possibly Marvel's worst.

Taika's Thor: Ragnarok on the other hand is one of their best and last year's followup Love and Thunder one of Phase Four's best.

Arguably ill conceived insofar as cancer and comedy make for uncomfortable companions but the final result was still a cut above recent Marvel fare.

The first Wonder Woman film proved that Patty Jenkins can direct, and the second which she co-penned, that she's not as deft with scripts.

So on the whole this report makes sense, but whether it actually plays out and if the Star Wars film brand can be redeemed are unknowns.
